What We Have Been Able to Achieve – South Africa
Malamulele Onward has been working with children with CP in the Malamulele/Mhinga area of South Africa since 2005. These children have improved dramatically in what they are able to do. In addition the local rehabilitation workers now have increased skills in working with children with CP. Local caregivers have shown that they have followed through on the home-based program, which is evident in the strides being made by the children. Malamulele Hospital, where the interventions have occurred, is a very enthusiastic supporter of the work of Malamulele Onward.

Another project in the Limpopo Province, in an area called Dilokong, occurred in 2007 and 2008 and now continues with therapists visiting the children and their caregivers every six or twelve months to assess the children’s progress and assist the caregivers and local rehabilitation workers in advancing the children’s abilities.

An ongoing project at Siloam Hospital in the Limpopo Province began in late 2009.

Two projects in the Eastern Cape began in 2007--One in Butterworth and the other in Tafalofefe. A major research project is being undertaken at these sites, over a three year period, in which researchers are investigating long-term results of the treatment model.

Madwaleni and Zithulele Hospital, are the newest Malamulele Onward sites in the Eastern Cape, with the first outreach visit having been conducted in April, 2008.

Malamulele Onward volunteers follow up with each site every six or twelve months, on an ongoing basis.

Training Courses Outside South Africa
Since 2006 tutors from Malamulele Onward have been offering two week long training courses for therapists in Rwanda. These courses have occurred annually. Courses have combined both training in a classroom setting as well as working with children with CP in the local area. In addition training courses have been offered in Lesotho.
