Professor Alan Rothberg
Board member
Professor Alan Rothberg is currently Head of the School of Therapeutic Sciences at the University of Witswatersrand. Alan specialised in Paediatrics in South Africa in 1976. He then spent three years in the U.S. at the Hershey Medical Center as a fellow in their neonatalogy programme. On his return to South Africa in 1980 he headed the Neonatal ICU for five years before being appointed as Head of the Dept of Paediatrics at the University of the Witwatersrand. In 1996 he left the University and became involved in the private health funding industry, but returned as Head of the School of Therapeutic Sciences in 2005 (covering the disciplines of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, pharmacy and sports medicine). “As a result of my experience I bring to the board knowledge of the conditions suffered by the children targeted by Malamulele Onward, insights into therapy and rehabilitation, ability to conduct and supervise research, and knowledge of health economics.”
