The story of our logo
Our logo has a baobab tree and a child in it. We chose the baobab tree for many reasons. It is specific to Limpopo Province, especially the area around Malamulele where our project first put down roots, so it is symbolic of where we began. It is a mighty and majestic tree which withstands storms and winds. It offers a home to many birds and small animals and shelter, protection and a place to rest awhile for the weary.
A tree is a living symbol, alive and growing. It has an extensive root system that supports it. It grows in conditions of adversity yet prospers. We see the baobab as a symbol of what Malamulele Onward offers to children and their caregivers. The children begin to thrive despite their challenges and the caregivers find a place of rest and shelter. Children with cerebral palsy are the heart of Malamulele Onward. The child in our logo is alive and full of joy. That is our goal for the children that we interact with.
Malamulele is a village in the north east corner of Limpopo Province, South Africa. It is 250 km from Polokwane, the capital of Limpopo. The nearest large town is Thoyandou, situated about 70 km away.
The word “malamulele”--the rescuer--comes from the Shangaan word “lamulele” which means “to be rescued”. |
